First Snow

It's the day before the official start to winter and Boston is finally getting snow. It seems like Europe and the West Coast have been getting slammed, but Boston has just had a few flurries so far. As usual, the amounts are different from what the weather people said, but what else would you expect? Tomorrow morning when you're shoveling or trekking through the snow, think of these boston.com commercials and your beloved hometown to bring a smile to your face...

**Update - SNOWLOKO has hit Boston... the Blizzard of 2010 is here!

Boston Santacon 2010

For anyone who has ever done "The 12 Pubs of Christmas," here's another treat. Tomorrow there will be dozens of Santa's running around Cambridge & Somerville on a pub crawl. Check out Santacon Boston for the pubs they'll be visiting and all the merry details.

Quick rundown of the schedule taken from the blog...
  • 12:30 PM Santa meets at The Asgard
  • 2:30 PM Central Square: Tavern in the Square, Cantab Lounge, People's Republik, Plough and Stars
  • 4:30 PM Harvard Square: Grafton St, Hong Kong, Whitney's Cafe
  • 6:30 PM Dinner: John Harvard’s, Grendel's Den
  • 9:30 PM Davis Square: The Burren (live Celtic music), Joshua Tree, Johnny D’s (live Latin beats)

Believe me, there are few things funnier than seeing several Santas drinking together. Even if you don't want to do the pub crawl, I'd recommend popping into one of the pubs they'll be attending. You might even get a present if you're on the "nice list."  Turns out they've been doing this for 12 years. Sounds pretty cool!

Insider Tip:  This tip is especially for the Santas. I was at the Burren last week, and it is like a sauna in the back where the band plays! Stay out front and you'll be nice and cool, even in your Santa suit. I'm sure you won't be needing the band for entertainment.

O Christmas Tree!

Have you picked your Christmas Tree yet? Christmas is only 12 days away, so if you've yet to select your tree get to a local store or Christmas Tree farm and make an event out of it! There are many different places throughout Massachusetts and all of New England where you can go to choose a tree. Whether it's pre-cut or you actually cut your own, picking the perfect tree for your house is a holiday tradition. Some locations include other fun winter activities such as: sleigh rides, hay rides and winter wagon rides. Wreaths, decorations and seasonal snacks are available at certain places as well. Checkout this great site to find the closest location to you. Grab a pair of gloves and dress in extra layers to stay warm. You'll definitely enjoy this holiday experience.

Slutcracker vs. Nutcracker

*Please note: This play is not offensive in any way shape or form, but does contain adult nudity, and may not be suitable for all ages*

The Slutcracker combines the art of burlesque, comedic relief, and holiday cheer into a fun filled night of dancing, beauty, and laughs.

Currently, the Slutcracker will be performed at The Somerville Theatre, in Davis Sq (Somerville) throughout the evening hours from Dec 3rd-24th. So, take a night off from shopping and worrying about the holidays and enjoy some funny, beautiful, and talented girls' spin on this holiday classic.

But, at the same time, there is also the traditional holiday show by the Boston Ballet which will be suitable for all ages and will be a promising and unique family event.

The Boston Ballet will be performing the classic holiday story The Nutcracker at the Boston Opera House throughout december. This show evokes a holiday atmosphere and winter feelings for the whole family. Enjoy the magical journey!

I suggest going to both performances and forming your own opinion about how differently the traditional story by E.T.A. Hoffmann can be interpreted.
